Mon Sep 23 22:48:44 UTC 2024: ## Flyers Welcome Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau’s Father to Training Camp

**Voorhees, NJ** – In a touching gesture of support, the Philadelphia Flyers invited Guy Gaudreau, father of the late Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, to participate in their training camp on Monday.

Guy, who is also a coach himself, was welcomed by head coach John Tortorella and the Flyers organization. Tortorella, visibly moved by the tragic loss of the Gaudreau brothers last month, explained that he wanted to offer the family some solace.

“I never met Johnny and Matt, but their family is here,” Tortorella said. “It’s a horrific situation. He’s a coach, he’s done great work with youth, so it was perfect to bring him in.”

The Flyers coach attended the brothers’ funeral and commended their wives for their strength in the face of such immense grief. “It’s horrible what happened, it’s still fresh. We want to be part of it and try to help.”

Flyers players expressed their gratitude to Guy for being there, shaking his hand and tapping their sticks after practice. Tortorella even joked about giving Guy a hard time for his demanding coaching style.

“He was hesitant at first, but we let him work at his own pace,” Tortorella said. “It worked out really well. We’re going to check in next week and see if we can get him out here a few more times. I don’t want it to be just a visit, I want him to be part of it. I think it will be therapeutic for him to be around us.”

The Flyers’ gesture is a testament to the hockey community’s sense of unity and support in times of tragedy. By welcoming Guy Gaudreau into their camp, they have offered him a space to heal and connect with the sport his sons loved so much.
