Mon Sep 23 21:23:04 UTC 2024: ## Jets Bolster Secondary with Veteran Addition: Jalen Mills Joins Practice Squad

The New York Jets have added a veteran presence to their already impressive defense, signing former Super Bowl champion Jalen Mills to their practice squad, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Mills, a versatile defensive back with experience at both cornerback and safety, joins the Jets after spending training camp with the New York Giants.

Mills, who turned 30 earlier this year, brings eight years of NFL experience to the Jets. He began his career with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he was a key contributor to their Super Bowl LII victory in 2018. He then spent three seasons with the New England Patriots before being released by the Giants this season.

The Jets, who are currently 2-1 and coming off a big win over the Patriots, have already impressed with their dominant defense. Their secondary has been particularly strong, allowing just 150.7 passing yards per game, which ranks fifth-best in the NFL. Mills’ addition provides depth and experience for the Jets, who are currently ranked second in the league in sacks with 14.

Mills will initially compete for a spot on the active roster from the practice squad. His experience and versatility could prove valuable should the Jets require depth or face injuries in their secondary. The Jets’ defensive coordinator Robert Saleh will likely look to utilize Mills’ skills in various ways, potentially adding another dimension to their already potent defense.
