**Aizawl, September 25, 2024:** World Pharmacists Day was celebrated in Aizawl today, with a focus on the theme “Pharmacists: Meeting Global Health Needs”. The event was organized by the Mizoram State Pharmacy Council (MSPC) at Bawngkawn South YMA Hall and was attended by the Hon’ble Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Pi Lalrinpuii, as the chief guest.
In her address, the Minister highlighted the crucial role of pharmacists in the healthcare system and emphasized the importance of their expertise in both medication development and patient care. She urged them to take a more proactive role in addressing public health concerns, particularly in the context of rising drug abuse and HIV cases in the state. She emphasized the need for qualified pharmacists in all district hospitals to ensure quality healthcare delivery.
Dr. H. Lalhlenmawia, Vice President of MSPC, led the proceedings, while MSPC President Pu Lalsawma encouraged pharmacists and students to work towards providing accessible and safe medication for the public. Dr. Lalnunpuii gave a presentation on the importance of pharmacists in meeting global health needs, highlighting their key role in healthcare delivery. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Pu F. Lalliantluanga, Executive Committee Member of MPSC.
The event saw participation from representatives of the Department of Pharmacy, RIPANS, Laithangpuii College of Pharmacy, Mizoram Institute of Pharmaceutical Science, and the Mizoram Pharmacy Council, along with other prominent guests.
World Pharmacists Day has been observed annually since 1992 under the auspices of the International Federation of Pharmacists. The day aims to raise awareness about the vital role of pharmacists in ensuring the well-being of communities worldwide.
