Tue Sep 24 20:40:51 UTC 2024: ## Rain Drenches England’s Hopes in Women’s ODI Series Opener
The first ODI between England and Australia Women was abandoned without a ball bowled due to persistent rain in Taunton on Sunday. The match was scheduled for a 50-over contest but relentless showers forced the umpires to call off the match.
However, the teams did manage to complete a warm-up match earlier in the day, which saw England emerge victorious through the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method. The hosts won by 46 runs, thanks to a brilliant 156-run partnership between Harry Brook and Ollie Jacks for the third wicket. Brook, who was playing his first ODI, scored a century in the process.
This abandonment leaves England trailing 0-1 in the three-match series, with the next two matches scheduled for Chelmsford and Bristol later this week.
