Mon Sep 23 21:56:00 UTC 2024: ## Fujifilm Fights Back Against Proposed Tariffs on Aluminum Printing Plates
**Hanover Park, IL, September 23, 2024** – Fujifilm North America Corporation has voiced its strong opposition to the proposed antidumping and countervailing duties on aluminum lithographic printing plates imported from Japan and China. The U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) has finalized its calculations for these tariffs, which could reach 91.83% for imports from Japan and a combined 151.51% for those from China.
Fujifilm General Manager Hidetoshi (Toshi) Kino stated that these tariffs would “increase costs for the entire printing plate market” and ultimately harm American businesses and consumers who rely on products printed with these plates. He pointed out that Eastman Kodak Company, the petitioner behind the proposed tariffs, stands to be the sole beneficiary while the entire printing industry would suffer.
While the DOC has finalized its calculations, the final decision rests with the International Trade Commission (ITC), which will vote on October 22nd. The ITC will determine whether the proposed tariffs are necessary to address potential harm to Kodak caused by imports from Japan and China. If the ITC finds no material injury, the tariffs will be automatically terminated.
Fujifilm, a long-time provider of aluminum printing plates, remains committed to fighting against the imposition of these duties. The company believes that the tariffs would unfairly burden the American printing and publishing industries, as well as businesses that rely on the products they produce.
The company plans to continue advocating against the proposed tariffs on behalf of its customers and the broader printing industry, stressing the importance of protecting print and its role in the American economy.
