**HANOVER PARK, ILL – September 23, 2024** – Fujifilm North America Corporation has issued a statement vehemently opposing the newly announced antidumping and countervailing duties on aluminum lithographic printing plates imported from Japan and China. The duties, which were calculated by the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC), range from 91.83% for Japanese imports to a combined 151.51% for Chinese imports.
Fujifilm argues that these tariffs will significantly increase costs for the entire printing plate market, ultimately impacting every American industry, business, and consumer that relies on printed materials. The company emphasizes that Kodak, the sole petitioner in this case, is the only entity that stands to benefit from these duties, while the rest of the industry will suffer.
Hidetoshi (Toshi) Kino, General Manager of Fujifilm’s Graphic Communication Division, stated that a large cross-section of Fujifilm’s customers and industry representatives voiced their concerns and objections to the proposed duties during an International Trade Commission (ITC) proceeding on September 17.
While the DOC has finalized its calculation, the ITC will ultimately decide whether to implement the duties on October 22. The ITC will issue a written rationale for its decision on November 4. If the ITC determines that there was no material injury to Kodak caused by aluminum lithographic printing plate imports from Japan and China, the duties will be automatically terminated.
Fujifilm, a long-standing provider of aluminum lithographic printing plates, emphasizes its commitment to innovation and its customers, highlighting the superior features and benefits of its products. The company vows to continue fighting against the imposition of these duties, advocating for its customers and the larger printing and publishing industries.
