**Abuja, Nigeria** – A fuel tanker explosion rocked the upscale Maitama district of Abuja on Monday evening, causing widespread panic and traffic gridlock. The incident occurred after the tanker, owned by AP Filling Station, collided with a commercial bus on Shehu Shagari Way near the MTN office.
According to eyewitness reports, motorists abandoned their vehicles and fled the scene in fear, creating a massive traffic jam that stretched to surrounding areas including Farmers Market, Nicon Hilton Hotel, and Chicken House.
The Director of the FCT Fire Service, Amiola Adebayo, confirmed the incident, stating that the tanker overturned at the Maitama Roundabout, sparking the fire. Two occupants of the Sienna vehicle involved in the collision were transported to the hospital for treatment.
“The fire was brought under control by 7:50 pm,” Adebayo said, adding that thankfully, there were no fatalities reported.
