Mon Sep 23 20:36:57 UTC 2024: ## Florida State’s Atkins Returns to Sidelines, Offense Shows Signs of Life

**DALLAS, TEXAS** – Florida State University offensive coordinator Alex Atkins returned to the sidelines in the Seminoles’ 14-9 victory over California on Saturday. Atkins, who had served a three-game suspension from the NCAA for NIL recruiting violations, said it was a challenge not being able to contribute to the struggling offense.

“It was difficult just because you want to be a part of it,” Atkins said. “You always want support in those struggling times.”

The Seminoles’ offense, which has struggled to score points this season, showed signs of improvement against Cal. Quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, who has faced criticism for his performance, displayed some positive flashes. He completed 16 of 27 passes for 177 yards, including a touchdown and an interception.

“He needs to stop stressing,” Atkins said about Uiagalelei. “He takes full ownership, and sometimes he tries to force those big plays. I thought he did a good job converting some third downs.”

The offense also saw contributions from freshman skill position players, who impressed Atkins with their communication and potential.

“I do believe you will see more of those guys as we are pushing forward,” Atkins said. “It gives you a little more trust with those guys going forward.”

Despite the win, the Seminoles still have work to do to improve their offense. They rank 126th out of 133 FBS teams in total offense. However, Atkins expressed optimism about the team’s progress and the future of the offense.

“Overall, I’ve been seeing the positive strides of us not only preparing them to what they can do in the game plan and preparation but also them having the confidence to go out there and do it,” Atkins said. “Now I think that responsibility and ownership in preparation, which is growing the offense.”
