Mon Sep 23 17:57:00 UTC 2024: ## World Lagging on Sustainable Development Goals, New Report Warns
**LONDON, Sept. 23, 2024** – A new report from Force for Good reveals a stark reality: the world is failing to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With only 16% of the 169 targets on track by 2030, the report highlights a growing funding gap of US$14-17 trillion annually, totaling US$112-136 trillion.
The report attributes this shortfall to a combination of global shocks, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine and Gaza, and the energy, cost-of-living, and climate crises. These interconnected crises have created a “polycrisis” diverting attention and resources away from sustainable development.
Despite these challenges, the report offers hope with nine “Big Ideas” that, if implemented globally, could propel SDG achievement to nearly 90%. These ideas include climate transition frameworks, AI-enabled connectivity, and universal digital financial services.
“This report shows how the global order and the systems itself can be transformed by delivering solutions en masse across the planet, engaging everyone in this endeavour,” said Ketan Patel, Chair of the Advisory Council. “By leveraging the strengths of governments, private companies, NGOs and mobilising the individual as an agent of change, we can create a sustainable, secure, and prosperous future.”
The report identifies large developing countries, particularly India, China, and Brazil, as crucial players in achieving the SDGs. These nations hold two-thirds of the world’s sustainable development potential and represent the first wave of opportunity in a multi-wave project.
Force for Good, an organization dedicated to mobilizing capital, resources, and ideas for good, has collaborated with the United Nations and leading financial institutions to produce this annual report. The initiative aims to engage stakeholders in deploying capital and solutions to address global challenges and build a sustainable future.
“Meeting the SDGs is a crucial step for the world in the transition to the next era of human civilization,” the report concludes. “Building a platform on which further breakthroughs and technologies can create a sustainable, secure and superior future.”
