Mon Sep 23 22:47:43 UTC 2024: ## Zelenskyy: Ukraine Closer to Victory, Calls for Stronger Army

**New York, NY** – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed optimism that the war with Russia is nearing its end during an exclusive interview with Good Morning America. He believes the key to victory lies in strengthening Ukraine’s military capabilities, urging allies to provide further support.

“The plan of victory is the strengthening of Ukraine,” Zelenskyy stated, emphasizing the need for continued international assistance. He emphasized that Ukraine is “closer to the peace than we think” and “closer to the end of the war,” but cautioned that “we just have to be very strong, very strong.”

The Ukrainian President’s comments come as he visits New York for the United Nations General Assembly this week, part of a trip to the U.S. where he plans to present his “Victory Plan” to President Joe Biden and other key American political leaders.

During his visit, Zelenskyy is expected to reiterate his request for the U.S. and UK to lift restrictions on the long-range missiles Ukraine needs to target deep inside Russia. This request comes amid intense fighting in eastern Ukraine, as well as Ukraine’s recent incursion into Russia’s Kursk region, where they claim to have captured hundreds of square miles and dozens of villages.

Zelenskyy believes that Putin fears this incursion, citing that “he’s afraid very much… because his people saw that he can’t defend his territory.”

The Ukrainian leader believes that only from a position of strength can Ukraine force Putin to end the war. He was joined by his wife, First Lady Olena Zelenska, during the GMA interview. Later this week, Zelenskyy is expected to travel to Washington to meet with President Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and former President Donald Trump.
