Mon Sep 23 20:29:28 UTC 2024: ## Bill Belichick: Sam Darnold Finally “Overcoming Ghosts” with Vikings Success

**MINNEAPOLIS, MN -** New England Patriots legend Bill Belichick has declared that quarterback Sam Darnold has shed his “ghostly” past and is flourishing with the Minnesota Vikings. Appearing on “The Pat McAfee Show”, Belichick lauded Darnold’s performance, praising the former Jets quarterback’s newfound efficiency and the admiration he receives throughout the league – except in New York.

“Everybody has liked Darnold except the Jets,” Belichick remarked, eliciting laughter from McAfee and co-host AJ Hawk. “The people in Carolina that I talked to, they really liked him. … I know Kevin [O’Connell] and some of the coaches in Minnesota they really like this guy too, so it seemed like the only people that didn’t like Darnold was the Jets.”

Darnold’s resurgence comes after a turbulent stint with the Jets, marked by inconsistency and ultimately culminating in a trade to Carolina in 2021. His “seeing ghosts” comment in 2019, made after a disastrous performance against Belichick’s Patriots defense, became a symbol of his struggles.

However, with the Vikings, Darnold has been a revelation. He leads the NFL in passing touchdowns (8) and is second in quarterback rating, behind only Josh Allen. This has earned the Vikings a top-three offense ranking and a strong start to the season.

“It will be interesting to see how they can sustain this,” said Belichick, acknowledging the Vikings’ potential. “I don’t think anyone is looking past them now. Probably opponents coming up in the future saying, ‘Hey, this is how we measure our program; how do we do right now against probably one of the best two or three teams in the league?'”

Belichick’s change of heart on Darnold underscores the quarterback’s impressive turnaround. After years of facing criticism, Darnold has finally silenced the skeptics and earned the respect of the league.
