Tue Sep 24 22:37:16 UTC 2024: ## England Triumph Over Australia in Rain-Shortened Third ODI

**Chester-le-Street, England:** England secured a thrilling victory over Australia in the third ODI at the Riverside, winning by 46 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method after rain brought an early end to the match.

Captain Harry Brook, who celebrated his first ODI century with a magnificent knock of 110* from 94 balls, led England’s charge, while Will Jacks contributed a fine 84. The pair laid the foundation for a strong total before rain intervened, leaving Australia with a challenging target.

Earlier in the day, Australia posted a competitive 304-7, with Matthew Carey (77* off 65 balls) and Steve Smith (60 off 82 balls) anchoring the innings. However, England’s bowlers, particularly Mark Wood, kept the Australians in check.

Despite the rain-affected finish, England were well ahead of the revised target under DLS, securing their second victory in the series. The win keeps the series alive, with the fourth ODI set for Lord’s on Friday.

“We started off nicely with the ball and looked to take wickets,” said Brook, reflecting on his side’s performance. “Will and I just tried to build a partnership and create a platform. It’s nice to get the first one [ODI century] on the board and hopefully plenty more to come.”

Australia’s captain, Mitchell Marsh, acknowledged England’s strong performance, particularly highlighting the partnership between Brook and Jacks. “They got a really partnership going, and in one-day cricket with a big partnership you can set the game up for yourself,” he conceded.

With the series poised at 2-1 in England’s favor, the final two matches promise to be enthralling encounters.
