Wed Sep 25 05:53:21 UTC 2024: ## England Clinches Thrilling ODI Win Over Australia, Brook Shines with Century
**CHESTER-LE-STREET, UK -** England captain Harry Brook smashed his maiden ODI century, guiding his team to a thrilling 46-run victory over Australia via the DLS method in the third ODI at Chester-le-Street on Tuesday. The win cuts Australia’s lead in the five-match series to 2-1 and ends their 14-match winning streak in ODIs, which included last year’s Cricket World Cup triumph.
Brook, leading in the absence of the injured Jos Buttler, came to the crease with England struggling at 11-2. Unfazed by the pressure, he launched into a blistering attack, hitting 13 fours and two sixes in a 94-ball knock, surpassing his previous best ODI score of 80.
His third-wicket stand of 156 with Will Jacks (84 off 82 balls) swung the momentum England’s way. Liam Livingstone then joined the party, smashing two sixes in quick succession after coming in at number six.
Australia, playing without Travis Head (rested) and Adam Zampa (ill), had set a target of 305 after a strong finish powered by Alex Carey’s unbeaten 77 and Aaron Hardie’s 44 off 26 balls.
Brook’s century came off just 94 deliveries, his second fifty coming off a mere 33. However, heavy rain interrupted play in the 38th over, with England well ahead of the DLS run-rate. The match was eventually abandoned, handing England a well-deserved victory.
The series continues on Friday with the fourth ODI at Lord’s.
