**COLVILLE -** A dramatic rescue unfolded on Saturday when a man in his 30s was airlifted to safety after his vehicle plunged 15 meters off the road and landed on its roof in the Coromandel region.
The incident occurred on Port Jackson Rd, Colville, around 11:50am, according to Hato Hone St John. The man was successfully extricated by bystanders and subsequently winched up by an Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter. Dramatic footage of the rescue shows the man being hoisted up as the vehicle lies below on rocks.
Paramedics from Hato Hone St John treated the man at the scene before he was transported to Auckland Hospital in a moderate condition.
The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
