**WINCHESTER, VA** – A Winchester family, whose youngest daughter Faith faces numerous physical and developmental challenges, has established a charity called Baby Faith’s Journey to help other parents and caregivers raising children with special needs.
Bryon and Danielle Johnson, parents of 4-year-old Faith, understand firsthand the overwhelming challenges faced by families navigating complex medical conditions and daily care routines. Faith, born with a rare genetic disorder called Cockayne syndrome, has undergone numerous surgeries, requires constant care, and relies on a G-tube for feeding.
“It’s a lot of time spent just trying to keep the baby alive,” Bryon said, highlighting the often-unseen realities of raising a child with special needs.
The Johnsons, already active in their community through their ministry and professional work, felt compelled to create a support system for other families. Baby Faith’s Journey provides guidance on financial planning, understanding individual education plans (IEPs), and advocating for their children’s needs.
“We want to be there for them, to help them keep their family together, their marriage together, and to remember to take care of themselves,” Bryon emphasized.
Baby Faith’s Journey is funded through donations and offers its services at no cost. They provide individualized support, including emotional support, knowledge sharing, and practical resources to empower families to navigate their unique journeys.
“It’s hard to explain what’s going on to people who haven’t been there,” Bryon said. “We connect with families to provide emotional support and knowledge because we know what it’s like.”
