**Philadelphia, PA** – The African American Literature and Culture Society (AALCS) is calling for submissions to its annual conference at the American Literature Association (ALA) conference. The conference will be held in Boston, MA, and the AALCS welcomes papers and panel proposals related to African American literature and culture.

**Themes**:

The AALCS encourages submissions on a range of themes inspired by Boston’s rich history, including:

* **Anti-Slavery and Abolitionist Movements:** Explore the contributions of Boston-based groups like the Massachusetts Anti-Slavery Society and the Boston Female Anti-Slavery Society.
* **Black Print Culture:** Analyze publications like *The Liberator*, *The Woman’s Era*, and *The Colored American* magazine.
* **Literary Contributions of Boston-connected African American Writers:** Examine the legacies of Phillis Wheatley-Peters, David Walker, Maria Stewart, William Wells Brown, Pauline Hopkins, W.E.B. Du Bois, and William Stanley Braithwaite.
* **Anniversaries**: Celebrate the 200th anniversary of Frances Harper’s birth and the 100th anniversary of Anna Julia Cooper’s dissertation defense.
* **Black Feminist Thought**: Examine the work of the Combahee River Collective and other figures in Black feminist thought.

**Other Submissions Welcome:**

While the above themes are encouraged, submissions on any topic related to African American literature and culture are welcome.
