Tue Sep 24 03:00:37 UTC 2024: ## Boeing’s “Best and Final” Offer Rejected by Striking Machinists

**SEATTLE** – Boeing has made a “best and final” offer to its striking machinists, including larger raises and bonuses, but the union has rejected the proposal, calling it insufficient. The union, representing 33,000 workers, will not hold a ratification vote before Boeing’s Friday deadline.

The union criticized Boeing for publicizing the offer without first negotiating with union representatives, stating that the company “does not get to decide when or if you vote.”

The new offer, more generous than the one rejected earlier this month, includes a 30% pay raise over four years (up from 25% in the initial proposal). The union initially demanded a 40% raise over three years.

The offer also includes upfront pay raises of 12% plus three annual raises of 6%, doubling the ratification bonus to $6,000. Boeing claims this would increase the average annual pay for machinists from $75,608 to $111,155 by the end of the four-year contract.

However, the offer does not reinstate the traditional pension plan, a key demand for the workers who previously voted 94.6% against the original contract.

Union leaders are surveying members on the new offer and have indicated it does not address their concerns.

The strike, which began on Sept. 13, has already started to impact Boeing’s finances, with production of 737s, 777s, and 767s halted.

To mitigate financial losses, Boeing has implemented temporary rolling furloughs for non-union employees, a hiring freeze, reduced business travel, and decreased spending on suppliers.

The strike continues with no immediate end in sight.
