**Ennis, Co. Clare – September 2024** – The body of Patrick Nugent, who died under mysterious circumstances in 1984, will be exhumed by gardaí tomorrow as part of a renewed investigation into his death.
Nugent, a 23-year-old banqueting manager at Bunratty Castle & Folk Park, died in the early hours of February 11th, 1984. His family, who strongly believe he was murdered and that the crime was covered up, have agreed to the exhumation after lengthy consideration.
They hope the findings might shed new light on the case and alter existing narratives surrounding his death.
Nugent’s brothers, John and Martin, expressed their appreciation for the work of the gardaí in the renewed investigation. While acknowledging the emotional toll of the exhumation, they recognize its importance in seeking the truth.
The process will begin around 4 am tomorrow and continue throughout the day. A key test will be conducted on Nugent’s bones, hoping to provide new investigative leads.
**The family’s lawyer, Kevin Winters, stated:** “We hope those anthropological findings will provide new investigative leads for Gardaí in all their follow-up inquiries.”
**Winters added:** “After all this time, it’s the least the family can expect to achieve.”
