Wed Sep 25 09:55:07 UTC 2024: ## Accused in Badlapur Sexual Assault Case Killed in Police Encounter: Family Disputes Version
**Thane, September 25, 2024:** Akshay Shinde, the accused in the Badlapur sexual assault case of two minor girls, was shot dead by police on Monday evening in an alleged encounter. Police claim that Shinde, who had been transported from Taloja jail for further investigations, attempted to seize a police officer’s weapon and threatened to kill everyone inside the van.
Inspector Sanjay Shinde, who fired the fatal shot, stated that Shinde’s aggressive behavior left him no choice but to act in self-defense. Shinde’s complaint, which led to an FIR being registered against the deceased, details how Shinde had previously been investigated for other offenses, including sexual harassment.
The incident unfolded while Shinde was being transported for questioning related to a complaint filed by his first wife. According to the complaint, Shinde began abusing officers during the journey, eventually grabbing a pistol from an assistant police inspector. After firing a shot that injured the officer, Shinde allegedly threatened to kill everyone and fired two additional rounds.
However, Shinde’s family has disputed the police version, alleging that he was killed in a staged encounter. Shinde’s father has approached the Bombay High Court seeking an independent investigation by an SIT.
The incident has sparked public outrage and raised questions about the circumstances surrounding Shinde’s death. The case remains under investigation.
