**Mumbai, India:** A poster war has erupted in Maharashtra following the death of Akshay Shinde, accused in the Badlapur school sexual assault case, in a police encounter. Numerous banners featuring Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis have sprung up across Mumbai, stirring controversy and sparking debate.
One particularly striking poster depicts Fadnavis brandishing a gun, accompanied by the phrase “Badla Pura” (revenge completed). The absence of any political party affiliation on many of these posters has fueled curiosity and speculation.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a campaign criticizing the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, accusing it of fostering corruption during its tenure. One banner asserts, “During the MVA period, police collected money for the government; now, the police protect the public.”
The encounter, which occurred on Monday, has sparked intense scrutiny. Authorities claim Shinde was shot dead in self-defense after he allegedly snatched a policeman’s gun while being transported from Navi Mumbai’s Taoja jail to Badlapur.
The Maharashtra government has ordered a state Crime Investigation Department (CID) probe into the encounter. A postmortem conducted at Mumbai’s JJ Hospital revealed that Shinde died due to excessive bleeding.
The incident has reignited the debate surrounding police encounters and the pursuit of justice for victims of sexual violence. The case has also highlighted the complexities of law enforcement and the need for transparency in such sensitive matters.
