Mon Sep 23 21:48:32 UTC 2024: ## Blind Dog Passes AKC Hunting Test, Inspiring Owner to Never Give Up

**GROSSE ILE TOWNSHIP, MI** – A Grosse Ile resident, Mike Adkins, and his beloved Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, Sadie, have defied the odds, proving that even the most challenging circumstances can be overcome with determination and trust.

Sadie, now 13 years old, tragically lost both her eyes in a hunting accident in 2021. Adkins, heartbroken at the prospect of his loyal companion losing her sight, was further devastated when he suffered a cardiac incident shortly after. Despite these setbacks, the pair persevered, relying on their deep bond and unwavering faith in each other.

Adkins, 72, began taking Sadie on daily walks in their backyard, guiding her with his voice and encouraging her with words of love. After weeks of consistent training, Sadie began to regain her confidence and, remarkably, started pointing at birds, despite being completely blind.

Determined to show the world what was possible, Adkins entered Sadie in the American Kennel Club Junior Hunter Test in Pennsylvania. While facing skepticism from some, the judges allowed Sadie to participate, captivated by her inspiring story.

Sadie, to everyone’s astonishment, passed all four tests over two days, becoming the first blind dog in AKC history to achieve this feat. Her success drew a large crowd, with spectators cheering her on and praising her incredible accomplishment.

“She’s the first dog — in our understanding — in 128 years of AKC history to pass a hunting test totally blind,” Adkins said, his voice choked with emotion.

The experience, he shared, has been a testament to the strength of their bond and a reminder that even in the face of adversity, hope and resilience prevail. “Don’t give up on your buddies,” Adkins said, looking lovingly at Sadie, “that’s my sweetheart.”

Adkins plans to continue entering Sadie in AKC tests, showcasing the remarkable abilities of his extraordinary dog and inspiring others to never give up on their dreams, no matter the obstacles.
