The recent update to the Seraphon army in Warhammer Age of Sigmar brought a much-needed refresh to many units, but one key unit was left behind: the Temple Guard. While they were renamed Saurus Guard, their models and function remained unchanged, making them look dated compared to the new, more dynamic Saurus Warriors.
This discrepancy has fueled frustration among Seraphon fans, as the Temple Guard are the elite protectors of their leaders and deserve a visual upgrade to match their important role.
Adding to the frustration, the upcoming Blood Bowl Lizardmen team features a new Saurus Star Player named Anqi Panqi, who sports the classic Temple Guard aesthetic with a bone helmet, extra jewelry, and a dynamic pose. This has sparked speculation that Games Workshop (GW) is testing the waters for an updated Temple Guard unit, similar to how the Blood Bowl Saurus were updated before the Seraphon army overhaul.
Many believe the current Saurus Guard models are simply “fancier” Saurus Warriors and could benefit from the bone helmets and extra armor seen on the Blood Bowl Star Player. The Astrolith Bearer model already showcases what a more elaborate Temple Guard unit could look like.
The Seraphon community eagerly awaits an update for their beloved Temple Guard and hopes GW will finally give them the visual upgrade they deserve. Whether this update will be a long-term plan or a surprise addition to the Seraphon army remains to be seen, but fans are certainly hoping for some good news on the horizon.
