**Mumbai, September 25:** A 22-year-old man, Arif Mehboob Qureshi, who was arrested for stalking and assaulting a 16-year-old girl, died at JJ Hospital on Tuesday. Qureshi had been admitted to the hospital on September 22 after complaining of uneasiness while being lodged at Arthur Road Jail.
According to reports, prison officials stated that Qureshi exhibited symptoms of drug withdrawal and suffered seizures, leading to his hospitalization. However, Qureshi’s family has filed a complaint with the Kalachowkie Police Station, demanding an investigation into his death.
The family alleges that they were not informed by jail authorities about Qureshi’s hospitalization and that they were assaulted by the girl’s family.
“We are awaiting the postmortem report, which will shed light on the circumstances of his death,” said a police official.
Qureshi, a resident of Sewri, was arrested by the Kalachowkie police earlier this month and remanded to judicial custody. He faced charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the POCSO Act.
