Mon Sep 23 15:14:08 UTC 2024: ## Trial Begins for Men Accused of Killing Memphis Rapper Young Dolph

**Memphis, TN (September 23, 2023):** After nearly two years of delays and legal maneuvering, the trial for the three men accused of murdering Memphis rapper Young Dolph is set to begin today. Jury selection was completed earlier this week, and the trial, which was initially scheduled for June 3rd, will now commence with opening statements.

The three defendants, Justin Johnson, Cornelius Smith Jr., and Hernandez Govan, face charges of first-degree murder and other related felonies. Prosecutors allege that Johnson and Smith carried out the fatal shooting outside Makeda’s Cookies, while Govan orchestrated the hit.

The trial was moved from Shelby County, where the murder occurred, due to extensive media coverage, and a jury from outside the county was selected. The defense had requested a delay in June to allow time for expert review of evidence.

A fourth suspect, Shundale Barnett, was arrested but released on bail and has since disappeared. A fifth alleged conspirator, Jemarcus Johnson, has pleaded guilty to accessory after-the-fact charges and is expected to testify against the other defendants in exchange for having his conspiracy to murder charge dropped.

All three defendants have maintained their innocence, and the trial is expected to draw significant attention as the community waits to hear the outcome of the case.
