Mon Sep 23 21:52:05 UTC 2024: ## Vodafone Idea Signs $3.6 Billion Deal with Nokia, Ericsson, and Samsung for Network Equipment

**MUMBAI, INDIA – August 20, 2024** – Vodafone Idea, India’s leading telecom operator, has secured a $3.6 billion (Rs 30,000 crore) deal with Nokia, Ericsson, and Samsung for the supply of network equipment over the next three years. This marks the first step in Vodafone Idea’s ambitious $6.6 billion (Rs 55,000 crore) three-year capex plan, designed to enhance its network infrastructure.

The deal will allow Vodafone Idea to expand its 4G coverage from 1.03 billion to 1.2 billion people, launch 5G services in key markets, and expand capacity to meet growing data demands.

The announcement comes amidst the ongoing AGR (Adjusted Gross Revenue) liability issue, which has put significant financial pressure on Vodafone Idea. The company’s CEO, Akshaya Moondra, CFO, Murthy GVAS, and the senior management team will be hosting an analyst and investor call later today to discuss the company’s plans in the wake of the recent Supreme Court ruling on AGR dues.

Vodafone Idea has opted to continue its partnership with Nokia and Ericsson, while also onboarding Samsung as a new partner. The company believes the new equipment will provide enhanced customer experience and lead to efficiency gains in energy consumption, ultimately reducing operating costs.

In June 2024, Vodafone Idea successfully raised Rs 24,000 crore in equity and acquired additional spectrum worth Rs 3,500 crore. The company has already begun implementing some “quick wins” to improve its network, including deploying more spectrum on existing sites and launching new sites. These initiatives are expected to boost capacity by 15% and increase population coverage by 16 million by the end of September 2024.

Vodafone Idea’s latest move demonstrates its commitment to strengthening its network infrastructure and delivering improved services to its customers. The company is determined to overcome the AGR challenges and remain a major player in the Indian telecommunications market.
