Marvel has released a three-minute teaser for their upcoming anti-hero team-up film, “Thunderbolts*,” generating buzz and comparisons to DC’s “The Suicide Squad.” However, Sebastian Stan, who reprises his role as Bucky Barnes, has revealed a more nuanced take on the film, suggesting a “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” feel.

Speaking to Variety, Stan described Bucky’s role in “Thunderbolts*” as similar to Randle Patrick McMurphy’s in the classic film, “a guy coming into this group that was chaotic and degenerate, and somehow finding a way to unite them.” This suggests a darker, more complex dynamic within the team than initially anticipated.

Stan also addressed the recent criticism of Marvel films, acknowledging the difficulty of consistently delivering high-quality content. While he refrained from using the term “superhero fatigue,” he emphasized the importance of Marvel’s contribution to the film industry, arguing that their success allows for the production of smaller films.

“Thunderbolts*” is expected to hit theaters on May 2, 2025, following the release of Stan’s new film, “The Apprentice,” on October 11.
