Mon Sep 23 14:49:00 UTC 2024: ## Taiwanese Tech Firm Under Investigation After Exploding Devices Sent to Hezbollah

**Taipei, Taiwan** – Taiwanese authorities are intensifying their investigation into a tech company suspected of supplying explosive communication devices to Hezbollah, the Lebanese militant group. The investigation follows a deadly incident last week where hundreds of pagers and two-way radios detonated across Lebanon, resulting in 39 fatalities and nearly 3,000 injuries.

The New York Times reported that Israel allegedly planted explosives in a shipment of pagers from Taiwan’s Gold Apollo, citing US and other unnamed officials. This allegation has fueled speculation and raised concerns about the origins and distribution of the explosive devices.

Taiwanese investigators have already questioned two company employees, including Gold Apollo’s head Hsu Ching-kuang, who has denied any involvement in producing the devices. Today, the prosecutors’ office announced that they have questioned two more employees and have also directed the National Security division to interview former or current employees of the company as witnesses.

“The two helped clarify the case, and the whole case is under intensive investigation,” the prosecutors’ office said in a statement.

Gold Apollo initially blamed its Hungary-based partner BAC Consulting for the incident, claiming the company had been using its trademark. However, a Hungarian government spokesman clarified that BAC Consulting was merely a trading intermediary with no manufacturing or operational sites in Hungary.

Taiwan’s economic minister has stated that they are certain the exploding pagers in Lebanon were not manufactured in Taiwan. The investigation continues as authorities seek to unravel the complex web of events surrounding the deadly incident.
