Tue Sep 24 00:11:37 UTC 2024: ## City’s Silva Questions Arsenal’s “Lack of Appetite” in Rivalry Clash

Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva has suggested that the rivalry between his side and Arsenal is yet to reach the intensity of the battles they previously had with Liverpool. Following a dramatic 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, Silva questioned Arsenal’s attacking intent, particularly in the second half after they were reduced to 10 men.

“Liverpool always faced us face-to-face to try to win the games,” Silva stated. “From this perspective, the games against Arsenal haven’t been like the ones we had and have against Liverpool.”

Silva’s comments come after Arsenal opted for a defensive approach in the second half, choosing to defend their 2-1 lead with a packed defense. This strategy, while effective for a large portion of the game, ultimately led to John Stones’ equaliser in the 8th minute of stoppage time.

“There was only one team that came to play football,” Silva added. “The other came to play to the limits of what was possible to do and allowed by the referee.”

This sentiment echoes previous criticisms from City players regarding Arsenal’s approach, particularly when playing at the Etihad. Last season, Rodri, another City midfielder, expressed his belief that Arsenal lacked the desire to beat City, “They just want a draw.”

The data backs up Silva’s claims. In the second half, City dominated possession, making 211 passes to Arsenal’s 23 up to the 70th minute. Arsenal’s possession dropped to a mere 12.5% in the second half, highlighting their defensive strategy.

The draw, while frustrating for City, was ultimately a testament to their resilience and commitment to attacking, even in the face of a stubborn defense. While the rivalry with Arsenal may not yet match the intensity of the battles with Liverpool, Sunday’s result suggests that City are determined to make their mark in this new chapter of Premier League competition.
