Mon Sep 23 15:13:22 UTC 2024: ## National Security Leaders Endorse Kamala Harris, Condemn Trump

A group of 741 national security leaders, including retired generals, admirals, ambassadors, and former defense secretaries, have publicly endorsed Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris for President. In a letter addressed to the American people, the group, comprised of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents, stated they believe Harris is the best candidate to safeguard America’s national security.

The letter, released by the nonprofit National Security Leaders for America (NSL4A), denounces Republican opponent Donald Trump, calling him “impulsive” and “ill-informed”. The group argues that the nation’s security requires a “serious and capable Commander-in-Chief”, a quality they believe Harris possesses.

Among the signatories are prominent figures like former NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe General Wesley Clark, former CIA and NSA Director General Michael V. Hayden, and former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. Notably, several high-ranking Republicans also signed the letter, including former Secretary of Defense William Cohen and former Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel.

The group’s statement underscores the importance of “freedom, democracy, and the rule of law” and warns that Trump’s leadership style poses a threat to the very foundation of American democracy. The NSL4A website features a section titled “Donald Trump’s Own Words”, highlighting statements from Trump that they believe demonstrate his disregard for constitutional principles.

The letter concludes by emphasizing the stark contrast between the two candidates, stating that this election is a “choice between serious leadership and vengeful impulsiveness… between democracy and authoritarianism.”
