Mon Sep 23 14:45:00 UTC 2024: ## Ireland Condemns Israel’s Airstrikes in Lebanon, Calls for De-escalation
**New York** – Irish Tánaiste Simon Harris has condemned Israel’s airstrikes in Lebanon, accusing the country of “blatant disregard for international law” and showing “no consideration for the protections of civilians.” He voiced concern over reports that at least 21 children have been killed in the conflict, adding that “a child’s cry is the same in any language.”
Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly, Mr. Harris called for an immediate de-escalation of violence in the Middle East. He highlighted the lack of a targeted approach to terrorism, stating that “we’re not seeing a targeted response to terrorism” amidst the escalating conflict.
Mr. Harris also assured the international community that he is in daily contact with Irish peacekeeping troops stationed in the region, confirming they are safe.
The condemnation comes as fears of an all-out war between Israel and Hezbollah grow, following a barrage of rocket fire from the Lebanese group into Israel. The UN envoy has pleaded for calm, warning that the region is “on the brink of catastrophe.”
