**Badlapur, Maharashtra:** Akshay Shinde, the prime accused in the rape of two minor girls in Badlapur, was killed in an alleged police encounter on Monday evening. The incident has sparked outrage and allegations of a cover-up, with the opposition accusing the ruling government of orchestrating the death to protect the real perpetrators.

According to police, Shinde snatched a weapon from an officer and opened fire while being transported for investigation from Taloja jail. In the ensuing shootout, Police Inspector Sanjay Shinde and Assistant Police Inspector Nilesh More were injured. Shinde, who reportedly worked with former encounter specialist Pradeep Sharma, fired the fatal shot.
