Iowa star Caitlin Clark’s highly anticipated WNBA playoff debut with the Indiana Fever ended in disappointment as the team suffered a 93-69 blowout loss to the Connecticut Sun on Friday.
Clark, who shot just 4-of-17 for 11 points, faced a particularly tough matchup against the Sun’s veteran guard DeWanna Bonner, who effectively neutralized Clark’s scoring prowess.
Despite an eye poke by Sun guard DiJonai Carrington in the first quarter, Clark insisted the injury didn’t hinder her performance, attributing the loss to poor shooting and overall team play.
“I felt like I got good shots, they just didn’t go down,” Clark said. “I felt like we just played a crappy game.”
The Sun’s coach, Stephanie White, praised Bonner’s effectiveness in limiting Clark’s impact. “It was about having length, it was about giving us versatility in our pick-and-roll situations, giving a different look,” said White.
With the series currently 1-0 in favor of the Sun, Clark and the Fever face an uphill battle as they head into Game 2 on Wednesday. If the Sun secure another victory, the Fever’s first playoff appearance since 2016 will be cut short.
