Mon Sep 23 15:07:04 UTC 2024: ## Ice-T’s Body Count Scores Pink Floyd Approval for “Comfortably Numb” Cover

In a surprising twist, rapper Ice-T’s heavy metal band Body Count has released a cover of Pink Floyd’s iconic song “Comfortably Numb” on their upcoming album “Merciless.” Not only did they receive the blessing of the original song’s co-writer, David Gilmour, but even Roger Waters, who has been locked in a long-standing feud with Gilmour, approved the cover.

Initially, the band’s request to cover the song was denied by the publisher, but Ice-T, undeterred, reached out to both Gilmour and Waters personally. Gilmour gave an enthusiastic thumbs up, while Waters’ only question was “Who’s singing?” Upon learning it was Ice-T, he too gave his approval.

Ice-T explained his choice, stating that the song resonated with him due to its commentary on societal numbness. “I can turn on and watch the war in Ukraine, or I can watch the Israel situation, and then click off and then start watching sports,” he shared, highlighting how people often become desensitized to the world’s problems. “We are just kind of numb to everything that’s going on, the starvation in the world, everything. It must have struck a nerve in both of those guys.”

The “Comfortably Numb” cover marks a surprising collaboration between two seemingly disparate artists. Body Count’s “Merciless” album drops on November 22nd, and fans can catch the band performing the cover live at the Louder Than Life Festival in Louisville, KY on September 28th and the Aftershock Festival in Sacramento, CA on October 12th.
