**Delaware, US -** Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the Quad Summit in Delaware on Saturday, underscored the importance of the alliance amidst a world rife with conflicts. He highlighted the shared democratic values uniting the Quad nations, emphasizing their crucial role in upholding a rules-based international order.
“Our meeting is taking place at a time when the world is surrounded by tensions and conflicts,” Modi said. “In such a situation, the Quad’s working together on the basis of shared democratic values is very important for the entire humanity.”
The Quad, comprising the United States, Australia, India, and Japan, has made significant strides since its inception, according to President Joe Biden. “Four years after my proposal to elevate the Quad, the U.S., Australia, India, and Japan are more strategically aligned and delivering more positive impact across the Indo-Pacific than ever before,” he stated. “While challenges will come and the world will change – the Quad is here to stay.”
PM Modi affirmed the alliance’s commitment to a “free, open, inclusive and prosperous Indo-Pacific”, noting the initiatives undertaken by the Quad in areas such as health, climate change, security, emerging technology, and capacity building. He explicitly stated that the alliance is “not against anyone” but stands for the “respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, and peaceful resolution of all issues.”
In acknowledging President Biden’s leadership, Modi highlighted his contribution to the alliance. “It gives me immense pleasure to participate at this Quad Summit during my third term. Under your leadership, the first summit of 2021 was organised,” he remarked. “In such a short time, we have expanded our cooperation in an unprecedented way in every direction. You have played a very important role in this. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your commitment and contribution to Quad.”
India has expressed its willingness to host the Quad Summit in 2025.
PM Modi’s three-day trip to the US includes a bilateral meeting with President Biden to discuss strengthening US-India relations and addressing global conflicts. He is also scheduled to address the American-Indian community in New York, meet with American tech business leaders, and deliver an address at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
