**New Delhi, September 22:** Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, convened in Delaware for the sixth Quad Leaders’ Summit, emphasizing the group’s importance in a world grappling with conflicts.
During the summit, PM Modi highlighted the significance of the Quad’s unity in addressing global challenges, stating that “when the world is surrounded by conflicts, it is significant for the Quad to unite for the greater good of humanity.” He also acknowledged the efforts made by President Biden to strengthen the India-US global strategic partnership.
The Quad leaders focused on Indo-Pacific priorities, including maritime security, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, and Quad port partnerships. They also discussed ways to address key issues such as the lack of proper health infrastructure in the region, highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
As a key initiative, the Quad will launch “Quad Cancer Moonshot,” a joint venture aimed at leveraging public and private resources to reduce cancer deaths in the Indo-Pacific region. The program will initially focus on cervical cancer.
The leaders also announced their commitment to strengthening health security through the Pandemic Fund. India will host a workshop on pandemic preparedness, while Australia will increase the number of public health specialists ready to deploy in response to disease outbreaks.
The summit reinforced the Quad’s commitment to upholding the international order based on the rule of law, respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, and peaceful resolution of disputes. The group’s collaborative efforts aim to address global challenges and ensure a more secure and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
