Sat Sep 21 11:24:40 UTC 2024: ## Global Celebration of Open Source Software: Software Freedom Day Returns on September 21st

**Denver, Colorado** – Software Freedom Day (SFD), a global celebration dedicated to free and open source software (FOSS), will be held on September 21st, 2023. This annual event, organized by the Digital Freedom Foundation, aims to educate the public about the benefits of using FOSS in all aspects of life, from education and government to business and personal use.

Since its inception in 2004, SFD has grown considerably. This year, events are planned across the globe, with support from organizations like the Free Software Foundation, Earth Cause, Nextcloud, System76, and TUXEDO Computers.

Anyone can host an SFD event, and the format is flexible. Participants can enjoy interactive activities, competitions, project creation, and the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals.

For those in Denver, Colorado, System76 is hosting an event at their factory starting at 11 a.m. (MDT).

This year’s SFD also features the Huion Graphics Challenge, inviting teams worldwide to create original artwork using FOSS graphics tools and share their creations under a Creative Commons license. Prizes include a Kamvas 12 Pro pen display for the winners and two Inspiroy H950P drawing tablets for runners-up.

“Free software is one of the few things that has kept my hopes up in these uncertain times,” said one attendee. “It brings together people from all walks of life, regardless of their beliefs or inclinations.”
