Sat Sep 21 21:51:21 UTC 2024: ## Atishi Marlena Sworn in as Delhi’s New Chief Minister

**New Delhi:** In a historic move, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi Marlena was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Delhi on September 21, replacing Arvind Kejriwal. At 43, she becomes the youngest and the third woman to hold the office, following in the footsteps of late Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dikshit.

Atishi, a seasoned politician with a strong track record in government, served as an advisor to Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and held several key portfolios in the Kejriwal cabinet, including Finance, Water, and Education. She also played a pivotal role in managing party operations, showcasing her leadership capabilities.

The AAP Legislature Party chose Atishi following Kejriwal’s resignation on September 17. The former CM announced his decision to step down after being released from jail, stating he would only return to the position after a fresh mandate from the people in the upcoming assembly elections.

Kejriwal also called for early assembly elections in November, coinciding with Maharashtra and Jharkhand, and asserted that Sisodia, also recently released on bail in the liquor scam case, would only rejoin the cabinet after a fresh mandate.

The new cabinet includes Mukesh Ahlawat, a first-time MLA from the Sultanpur Majra constituency, who fills the vacancy left by the resignation of Social Welfare Minister Raaj Kumar Anand. Other ministers include Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, Saurabh Bharadwaj, and Imran Hussain.

Atishi’s tenure as CM will last until the assembly polls in February 2024. Her appointment marks a significant shift in Delhi’s political landscape, setting the stage for a crucial election year.
