Sat Sep 21 19:51:12 UTC 2024: ## Atishi Sworn in as Delhi’s New Chief Minister
**New Delhi, September 21, 2024:** Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi was sworn in as Delhi’s eighth Chief Minister on Saturday, succeeding Arvind Kejriwal who stepped down to fight “false charges” against him. The ceremony, held at Raj Bhawan, saw Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena administer the oath of office and secrecy to Atishi, along with her new Council of Ministers.
Kejriwal, who was released from jail on bail earlier this week, plans to actively campaign for the upcoming February 2025 Delhi Assembly elections. He insists on a “certificate of honesty” from the people before he takes on the Chief Minister position again.
Atishi, the third woman to hold the position, is expected to serve a four-month term. In her first press conference, she declared her commitment to ensuring the continued delivery of key promises made to the people, including free electricity and water, despite the “false accusations” levelled against Kejriwal by the BJP.
The new council of ministers comprises familiar faces like Saurabh Bharadwaj, Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, and Imran Hussain, alongside newcomer Mukesh Ahlawat. Atishi will continue to head 13 departments of the Delhi Government in addition to her role as Chief Minister.
The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Kejriwal, former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel, Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta, BJP MPs, and Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora.
