Sat Sep 21 19:51:20 UTC 2024: ## Atishi Sworn in as Delhi Chief Minister, BJP Leader Aparna Yadav Offers Congratulations
**New Delhi, India:** Atishi Marlena has been sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Delhi on Saturday, following the resignation of Arvind Kejriwal. The oath of office and secrecy was administered by Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor, Vinay Kumar Saxena, at the Raj Niwas. With this, Atishi becomes the third woman to hold the position of Chief Minister in Delhi.
Atishi, who previously served as the Minister of Water in the Delhi government, was congratulated by BJP leader Aparna Yadav, the younger daughter-in-law of Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav.
While offering her best wishes, Aparna Yadav highlighted the upcoming Delhi elections and expressed concern about the state of the Yamuna River, underlining the challenges Atishi will face as Chief Minister.
“I congratulate her,” Aparna Yadav said. “Time is short; the Delhi elections are just around the corner. She was previously the Water Minister, but the condition of the Yamuna in Delhi is no secret. Time will tell what she will do as Chief Minister, but I believe the people of Delhi will decide who they want to give power to in the upcoming elections. I would only ask her to do good work.”
Prior to taking the oath, Atishi met with Aam Aadmi Party’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal at his residence. Earlier this week, Atishi and Kejriwal had met with the Lieutenant Governor to stake their claim to form the government.
In addition to Atishi, senior AAP leaders Gopal Rai, Mukesh Ahlawat, Imran Hussain, Saurabh Bharadwaj, and Kailash Gehlot were also sworn in as ministers in the new government.
In her first address as Chief Minister, Atishi appealed to the public to elect Arvind Kejriwal once again in the next elections. She warned that the BJP would “ruin” the lives of Delhi residents if Kejriwal is not re-elected, suggesting that they would lose access to free electricity and water. She described Kejriwal as her “elder brother” and “guru.”
