Fri Sep 20 11:15:21 UTC 2024: ## Türkiye Thwarts Over 400 Cyberattacks Daily, Emphasizing National Cybersecurity

**Ankara, Sept. 20** – Türkiye is actively combating cyber threats, successfully preventing over 400 major cyberattacks and 11 million malicious access attempts every day, according to Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu. The minister highlighted the crucial role of Türkiye’s computer emergency response team (USOM) in safeguarding national cyber security.

Uraloğlu’s statement comes in the wake of recent incidents in Lebanon, where hundreds of electronic devices, including pagers and walkie-talkies, used by Hezbollah exploded, causing injuries and disruption. The minister cited these events as a stark reminder of the increasing cyber threats facing global infrastructure.

“We are protecting electronic communication infrastructure and other critical infrastructures against cyber threats,” Uraloğlu said. “We are developing rapid detection and early response capabilities for cyber incidents with technological measures.”

USOM, Türkiye’s cybersecurity watchdog, continuously monitors 17 million IP addresses for vulnerabilities, having thwarted over 140,000 major attacks last year.

The government is actively collaborating with domestic telephone operators and international stakeholders to enhance cybersecurity capabilities, including information sharing and coordination studies. Türkiye is also implementing regulations, inspections, and vulnerability scans to protect critical infrastructures.

“Ensuring communication systems and national cyber security is of strategic importance in a digital world that has been changing rapidly in recent years and is full of threats,” Uraloğlu emphasized.

Turkish authorities have also stressed the importance of using locally developed communication systems and software for national defense. The government has implemented rigorous control mechanisms in the procurement and production processes to prevent any third-party involvement.
