**Sydney, Australia** – Rumors suggest Nintendo will unveil its next-generation Switch 2 console next week, rivaling Sony’s recently announced PlayStation 5 Pro. New information from industry sources reveals that AMD put up a strong fight against NVIDIA for the Switch 2 contract, but ultimately lost out. However, AMD secured the contract for the upcoming PlayStation 6 console, a significant win for the chipmaker.
According to sources within NVIDIA, the T239 system-on-a-chip (SoC) at the heart of the Switch 2 was finalized in late 2022. The T239 is a cost-optimized version of NVIDIA’s Orin chip, featuring efficiency tweaks from the company’s Ada Lovelace GPU architecture. The sources also confirmed that Nintendo opted for Samsung’s 8nm manufacturing process, as it offered the most cost-effective solution for the Switch 2.
The sources indicated that NVIDIA presented Nintendo with various options, including one utilizing the Lovelace architecture. However, Nintendo ultimately chose a cost-optimized solution with some efficiency improvements and additional features. While AMD made a strong bid for the Switch 2 contract, NVIDIA ultimately secured the deal.
The news comes as Nintendo prepares to unveil the Switch 2 next week, according to ongoing rumors. While the exact date remains unconfirmed, the console’s release is eagerly anticipated by fans.
