**Cairo, Egypt -** NATO’s Special Representative for the Southern Neighbourhood, Javier Colomina, visited Egypt this week, marking his first trip to the region since assuming his new role. During his visit, Mr. Colomina met with high-level officials, including representatives from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to discuss current security issues and strengthen bilateral partnerships.

Mr. Colomina emphasized the importance of Egypt as a long-term partner for NATO and a key player in regional affairs. He highlighted the need to enhance cooperation, particularly in areas of interest to Egypt, and outlined his three priorities: strengthening dialogue with Southern Neighbourhood partners, ensuring a coherent and transparent approach to NATO’s regional efforts, and fostering mutual understanding.

In addition to meetings with government officials, Mr. Colomina also met with key figures in the region, including the Assistant Secretary General of the League of Arab States, Hossam Zaki, and the US Special Envoy for Libya, Ambassador Richard Norland. He further engaged with representatives of the Cairo International Centre for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding and delivered a keynote address at the Institute of Diplomatic Studies.

Mr. Colomina’s visit reflects NATO’s commitment to fostering stronger relationships with key partners in the region. His engagement with Egypt underscores the organization’s recognition of the country’s crucial role in maintaining stability and security in the Middle East and North Africa.
