Sat Sep 21 10:50:54 UTC 2024: ## Indian Pacer Bumrah Joins Elite 400-Wicket Club in Chennai Test

**Chennai, India:** Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah reached a significant milestone on Wednesday, claiming his 400th international wicket during the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai. This achievement places him alongside former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff in the exclusive club of bowlers with 400 or more international wickets.

Bumrah achieved the feat in a remarkable 196 matches, compared to Flintoff’s 227. While impressive, Bumrah’s achievement still falls short of the legendary Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralidaran, who holds the record for most international wickets with 1,347 in 495 matches. Shane Warne, with 1,001 wickets in 339 matches, is the only other bowler to have crossed the 1,000 wicket mark in international cricket.

For India, Anil Kumble remains the highest wicket-taker with 956 wickets in 403 matches.

Bumrah’s 400th wicket came during Bangladesh’s first innings in Chennai. He took three wickets before tea, including the key dismissal of Mushfiqur Rahim for 8 runs. After tea, he took his 4th wicket, dismissing Taskin Ahmed, as Bangladesh crumbled to a score of 149, failing to reach the follow-on mark.

Earlier in the day, India had posted a competitive total of 376 thanks to a century from Ravichandran Ashwin and a crucial 199-run partnership between Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. Young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal also contributed with a half-century, helping India recover after a shaky start.

With Bumrah’s milestone achieved, India will be looking to build on their strong start in the first Test and claim a crucial series victory over Bangladesh.
