Comedian and writer Amber Ruffin has joined CNN’s new comedy-news talk show, “Have I Got News for You,” bringing her signature wit and sharp observations to the network’s foray into late-night programming. Ruffin, known for her work on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” and her own Peacock series “The Amber Ruffin Show,” says she’s always been drawn to discussing current events, making the new show a perfect fit.
“Have I Got News for You,” based on a popular British format, pits Ruffin against fellow comedian Michael Ian Black, each with a celebrity guest teammate, as they banter and joke about the news with host Roy Wood Jr. While Ruffin acknowledges Black’s keen awareness of current affairs, she confidently asserts her own comedic prowess, honed from her experience in short-form improv and writing for late-night.
Despite her busy schedule – which includes hosting her own late-night show, writing for “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” and co-hosting a podcast with her sister – Ruffin insists she won’t be leaving her day job. She views her new gig as a natural progression, highlighting the evolving relationship between comedy and news in late-night entertainment.
“The marriage of late night comedy and news is fairly new,” Ruffin said. “So, of course, the next evolution of that is comedy to have worked its way onto CNN. So I do think the two things are starting to become one, and I’m very interested in seeing where this goes.”
Ruffin’s involvement with “Have I Got News for You” is another indication of the growing trend of incorporating comedy into news programming. As she continues to navigate the ever-changing landscape of late-night, one thing remains certain – Amber Ruffin brings a unique voice and perspective to the table, ready to tackle the news with a healthy dose of humor and insight.
