**Tallinn, Estonia -** Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna met with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi in Tallinn on September 18th, discussing ways to strengthen their bilateral cooperation, particularly in Ukraine, and the global humanitarian landscape.

The meeting highlighted the pressing need to support Ukraine amidst the ongoing conflict and the increasingly complex humanitarian situation globally. “Russia continues its daily destruction of Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure,” said Tsahkna, emphasizing the importance of winterization assistance to help Ukraine restore its energy infrastructure, as well as demining efforts and addressing the war’s broader impact.

Tsahkna also highlighted Estonia’s ongoing commitment to humanitarian aid, both in Ukraine and other conflict zones, noting that the country has admitted over 30,000 Ukrainian war refugees and provided them with education and employment opportunities. He emphasized Estonia’s role as a vital partner in upholding humanitarian principles.

In turn, High Commissioner Grandi expressed gratitude for Estonia’s continued assistance and humanitarian aid to Ukraine. The meeting also explored ways to further enhance the partnership between Estonia and the UNHCR, including expanding joint activities in Ukraine and collaborating on digital affairs.

This marked the first visit to Estonia by the High Commissioner. The meeting served as a platform for discussing the strong existing cooperation between the two entities and laying the groundwork for further collaborative efforts in the face of global humanitarian challenges.
