Thu Sep 19 07:52:04 UTC 2024: ## 10-Year-Old Boy Killed in Stabbing Near Shenzhen Japanese School

**Shenzhen, China** – A 10-year-old boy enrolled in the Shenzhen Japanese School has died after being stabbed by a 44-year-old man on Wednesday morning. The attack, which occurred approximately 200 meters from the school gate, has sparked outrage and prompted calls for enhanced security measures.

The boy, whose father is a Japanese citizen and mother is a Chinese citizen, was on his way to school when he was attacked. He succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Thursday.

Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa condemned the attack as a “despicable act” and expressed deep regret for the loss of the young life. Japan has requested a detailed explanation of the incident from China.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian confirmed the arrest of the suspect and said an investigation was ongoing. While acknowledging the tragedy, Lin emphasized that the attack was an “individual” case and that China is committed to ensuring the safety of all foreign citizens within its borders.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions between China and Japan, marking the anniversary of the 1931 “Mukden incident” that triggered the Sino-Japanese War.

The Japanese embassy in China has issued an email to Japanese citizens residing in the country, urging them to be vigilant and take precautions, citing a series of recent knife attacks.

This is the second such attack near a Japanese educational facility in China in recent months. In June, a man attacked a bus used by a Japanese school in Suzhou, resulting in the death of a Chinese national who intervened to protect a Japanese mother and her child.

The recent attacks have raised concerns about the safety of foreigners in China, prompting calls for enhanced security measures around Japanese schools and other public areas.
