Thu Sep 19 07:28:02 UTC 2024: ## Canada Imposes New Sanctions on Hamas Financial Network

**OTTAWA, ONTARIO – September 18, 2024** – Canada has announced additional sanctions against Hamas, targeting eleven individuals and two entities linked to the terrorist group’s financial network. The move, announced by Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly, is part of Canada’s ongoing efforts to counter Hamas and its acts of terror.

The sanctions, imposed under the Special Economic Measures (Hamas Terrorist Attacks) Regulations, aim to restrict the flow of funds to Hamas, which Canada has designated as a terrorist entity since 2002. The individuals and entities targeted are alleged to have directly or indirectly facilitated, supported, and provided funding for the Hamas attacks on Israel that began on October 7, 2023.

“Canada unequivocally condemns Hamas’ brutal terrorist attack on October 7,” stated Minister Joly. “The hostages that were kidnapped on that day and who have remained in Hamas captivity for more than 300 days must be immediately released. Today’s measures are another step that Canada is taking to counter Hamas’ acts of terror, as well as its financial networks.”

This is the fourth round of sanctions against Hamas under the Special Economic Measures (Hamas Terrorist Attacks) Regulations since February 2024. Canada has also listed other groups, including Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, and the al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, as terrorist organizations under Canadian legislation.

The Canadian government remains deeply concerned about the ongoing violence in the region and its impact on Israeli and Palestinian civilians. It remains committed to promoting peace and security in the Middle East.
