Wed Sep 18 21:27:00 UTC 2024: ## PSG Snatches Late Victory Over Girona in Champions League Debut

Paris Saint-Germain edged out Champions League newcomers Girona 1-0 in a tense encounter at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday, thanks to a comical own goal in stoppage time.

Despite dominating possession and creating numerous chances, PSG struggled to break down a resolute Girona defense for the majority of the match. Marco Asensio came close to breaking the deadlock in the first half, but his shot narrowly missed the target. The Spanish winger was later substituted due to an injury before halftime.

The second half saw PSG continue their relentless assault, with Ousmane Dembele twice coming close to scoring, only to be denied by the woodwork and a crucial tackle from Ladislav Krejci.

Girona, content with a draw, employed time-wasting tactics that drew the ire of the home crowd. PSG, however, remained undeterred and launched a late offensive push, only to be thwarted by a series of saves from Girona goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga.

However, in the dying minutes, a low cross from Nuno Mendes inexplicably slipped through Gazzaniga’s legs and into the net, gifting PSG a hard-fought victory.

The result leaves PSG at the top of their Champions League group, while Girona will be disappointed with the late capitulation in their first ever Champions League match.
