Thu Sep 19 08:07:43 UTC 2024: ## ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: Prize Money Parity Reached, A Historic Milestone for Women’s Cricket

The upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 will mark a landmark moment in women’s cricket, becoming the first ICC event to offer equal prize money to both men and women. This decision was made at the ICC Annual Conference in July 2023, exceeding the initial target of reaching prize money equity by 2030.

The move makes cricket the only major team sport to boast equal prize money across its men’s and women’s World Cup events.

The tournament, now set to take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), will see a significant increase in prize money across the board. The winning team will receive a whopping US$2.34 million, a 134% increase compared to the $1 million awarded in 2023. Similarly, the runners-up will receive $1.17 million, a 134% increase from the previous $500,000.

This move aligns with the ICC’s strategy to prioritize and accelerate the growth of women’s cricket by 2032. The prize money for the tournament now mirrors the equivalent finishing positions in comparable men’s events, with the men’s T20 World Cup 2024 only having a higher prize pot due to 10 additional teams and 32 more matches.

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 will kick off on October 3rd with Bangladesh facing Scotland at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. A total of 10 teams will compete across 23 matches in Dubai and Sharjah to determine the 2024 champion.
