The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced a significant increase in prize money for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, with the total prize pool now exceeding $7.9 million. This represents more than double the amount awarded in the 2023 edition.
The champions of the 2024 tournament will receive a staggering $2.34 million, a 134% increase from the $1 million awarded to Australia in 2023. The runners-up will also benefit from a hefty increase, taking home $1.17 million.
The semi-finalists are also seeing a major boost, with each team set to receive $675,000, more than three times the payout they received in 2023.
The prize money extends beyond the knockout stages, with each group stage win now earning teams $31,154, a 78% increase from last year’s $17,500.
Furthermore, all 10 participating teams will receive a base prize of $112,500, totaling $1.125 million. Teams finishing between fifth and eighth will earn $270,000 each, while those finishing ninth and tenth will receive $135,000 each.
The tournament is set to begin on October 3rd, with group matches concluding by October 15th. The semi-finals are scheduled for October 17th and 18th, leading to the grand final on October 20th.
This significant increase in prize money reflects the ICC’s commitment to boosting the profile and financial rewards for women’s cricket. The tournament promises to be a highly competitive event, with teams vying for the coveted trophy and substantial financial rewards.
